HISTORY
This historic building is available for immediate lease in Lynchburg, VA. The property is located on the James River in Lynchburg, VA and is adjacent to Percival’s Island natural area and miles of walking and cycling trails. The property is believed to have been originally utilized by F.B. Deane and Son in the mid 1800's. F. B. Deane emigrated to Virginia from England and founded the historic Tredegar Iron Works located in Richmond, VA in the 1830s. Tredegar Iron works was a supplier of munitions to the South, purportedly supplying 4000 tons of shot and shell to the Confederacy. The Langhorne foundry in Lynchburg was founded in 1846 to supply iron for the railroad industry but operations later shifted to the production of munitions for the Confederacy. At the conclusion of the war, F.B. Deane passed away and his son sold the company shortly thereafter to Joseph Reid Anderson, a commercial sales agent for the business. In 1880, the foundry ceased operations and later Lynchburg hardware manufacturing company used the building. For the first half of the twentieth century the facility was used as a tobacco warehouse by Helm Tobacco company. For the second half of the twentieth century it was utilized in the production of handmade wooden furniture.
